During construction, the Klamath News stated that “one of the outstanding features of the High Street façade is a deeply revealed rose window which is to have sparkling stained glass, symbolic of Hope.” And very soon, Sacred Heart’s stained-glass windows will shine with a new light on our community.
I’m sure everyone in the Klamath community is wanting to get out of the smoke this weekend. The Two Four Two Fire has been raging for over a week now, and we need to maintain the momentum of its progression. What can Klamath do to help? Fire Officials are asking that you please stay away from the fire zone unless you are an actual resident. If you MUST travel that way, please be aware of the current road closures and detours. Here is an update as of Friday, September 18th on the current road conditions:
The Two Four Two fire was reported Monday the 7th near Williamson River Campground, but had jumped Highway 97, burning on both sides of the roadway, moving south and southwest. Strong winds pushed the fire towards 400 homes in Chiloquin on Monday the 7th. Over night it took off to over 2,000 acres, and burned more than 4 miles.

Doghouses can be as elaborate or as simple as you want. Almost any style house that can be built for people-living is possible for your dog. Do you want your doghouse to complement your house? Or do you have a dream house that you’d like to build for your dog? Is your dog more of a log cabin dweller? Or perhaps a Tudor castle? Haines can make a sketch of your dream doghouse, and then he’ll develop a plan and create a materials list.
Today it isn’t such a panic. Because last Christmas Eve she died. As she was being laid to rest on a rainy day, not a block away from our old home, the entire story of our lives quickly passed through our minds, like a great documentary film. Only a few feet away from her grave was where we’d jumped over the nearby fence to play football before people were buried there. Or we’d hit a few golf shots into the cemetery from back of our shed—if the caretaker wasn’t watching.
One quiet Saturday morning, my husband, who is typically indifferent to my aspirational ideas for home improvement, took an unusual interest in the small decaying blemish below our shower door. He poked his finger into the crumbling sheetrock just to see what would happen. He continued to pick away at the powdery wall until that small, jagged hole became a long, rectangular void running the full length of the shower opening. I appreciated the symmetry, but wasn’t too fond of having a 32 inch hole along the shower opening.
If you’ve lived here long enough, you know how capricious the Spring weather in Klamath can be. Sometimes, March has been warm enough to wear shorts, whereas other years, the snow is blowing sideways while you sit in the stands at your child’s track meet, wrapped inside a toasty sleeping bag, feeling sorry for all the kids competing in the event. Those drastic temperature swings can make the planting outline difficult to follow.
Couples dance while the inimitable Esquire Jazz Orchestra plays Glenn Miller’s brassy tunes, of course featuring the song synonymous with Casablanca, “As Time Goes By.” As the evening progresses, talented local boy turned Seattle-based indie pop singer Mitchell Mirande brings the music up to the present. And because gambling is legal in Morocco, a professional casino company from Eugene, Oregon, runs the dice rolling, blackjack, and roulette tables.
